What is the PMH-C?
PMH-C stands for Perinatal Mental Health Certification. It is awarded by Postpartum Support International (PSI) to professionals who complete specialized perinatal training and pass a certification exam. It signals to clients, referral sources and employers that you have dedicated training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
Requirements change over time. Always confirm the current rules with PSI's certification pages before you plan your path.
The steps, in brief
As PSI currently describes it, the path includes:
- A perinatal mental health certificate training of at least 14 hours (PSI's own course or an equivalent PSI recognizes)
- An advanced course specific to your professional track, such as advanced perinatal psychotherapy for therapists
- The PMH-C exam, which has a fee
- Recertification every two years, which includes 12 CE hours in perinatal mental health
Where Seasons fits
Seasons courses do not replace PSI's required trainings, and none of our courses are currently approved by PSI or for PMH-C recertification hours. We are working toward offering recertification hours in the future.
For now, our perinatal training, When Motherhood Feels Hard, is a practical way to build clinical skill and confidence with perinatal clients.
